HISTORY & GHOSTS

Lapwing Lodge started Life as a Sanatorium for Coats Mill workers in 1910. At this time the veranda was open to the elements for the patients to be wheeled out into the fresh air to recover. It remained in their ownership until 1955. Some of the former residents are said to have never left..... Just the mention of Lapwing Lodge will send shivers down the spine of many a Scout.

Now a thriving outdoors centre just outside of Glasgow, the site was once a Sanatorium for Coats Mill workers. Today, the Lodge still houses many ghosts, but perhaps the most famous is the ghost of the White Lady, the beloved sister of a woman who was murdered nearby, and who roams the front and backfields.

In 1959 it was offered to Paisley Burgh and Renfrew County Council but rejected, after which the building deteriorated. Ownership changed again this time to the Red Cross in 1960 and Paisley Scouts used the grounds for camping.

Lapwing Lodge seems to still attract its former guests, there are stories of the grey lady who was a nurse there and still looks after the guests in the dormitories that were once occupied by patients of the sanatorium.

There is reported poltergeist activity with the spirit of a gentleman who loves a good puzzle in the lounge. Staff also tell of the children who were killed in a tragic accident nearby and can still be heard playing. Many persons lived the end of their days here and are said to still be resident. This event will take place in the dark, please bring a torch with you for moving around the building. Due to The nature of the event please wear sensible clothing and footwear for all weather conditions. Please remember to bring snacks for the evening as we don’t want to mistake a ghostly sound for a rumbling belly. You may also want to bring a camera with you to snap some photos or video. You're also welcome to bring any ghost hunting equipment with you. The event is for people ages 18 and over and we advise pregnant woman not to attend. Alcohol and illegal drugs are not permitted, anyone who attends under the influence will not gain entry and will not be refunded.
